Own the
Algorithm.
Own the Vote.
A 14-day social video bootcamp for political changemakers who want to reach real people, on real platforms, in 2026 — without the cringe.
about housing policy
Social media has fundamentally changed.
It's 2026 — the platforms you knew 10 years ago are unrecognisable. If you're going to reach voters through social media, you need to create video. Lots of it. Every day. Everywhere.
Every platform favours vertical video
Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube — all now optimise for TikTok-style short-form vertical content above everything else.
Algorithms reach beyond your followers
Your content is now shown to both followers and non-followers based on viewing history — meaning strangers can find you.
Authenticity beats production value
The most effective political content today is raw, personal, and direct. Polished press-statement videos underperform.
"TikTokification"
Every platform's algorithm now favours TikTok-style vertical, authentically-produced video content over all other content types. This isn't going away — it's accelerating.
Politicians who adapt early gain a massive algorithmic advantage. The question is no longer whether to do video — it's how to do it as yourself.
CIVIC exists to answer that question.
Three pillars of a video-first strategy.
We all want to jump straight to filming. But tactics without strategy are noise. Before you hit record, you need three things locked in.
Personal Brand
Who are you — really? Not your party line, not your CV. The 5 words your friends and family would use. These qualities and values become the lens for every video you make.
- 5 authentic personal qualities
- Your genuine message identity
- "She's the one who __________"
Target Audiences
You're not speaking to everyone. You're speaking to 3–5 real people with names, ages, jobs, and concerns. When you film, you video-call them one at a time.
- 3–5 audience personas
- Core voters, base voters, persuadables
- Named individuals with real detail
Content Pillars
3–5 thematic areas that connect your personal brand to what your audiences care about. Consistent pillars train the algorithm to know who to show your videos to.
- 3–5 thematic topics max
- Driven by your audience personas
- Consistency beats variety for reach
Know exactly who you're talking to.
Give your audience personas a name, a face, a life. When you press record, you're video-calling them — not broadcasting to the void. Here's what a real example looks like.
Mike
Focused on the next generation — his teenage kids, nephews and nieces. Loves city living and is passionate about biodiversity, public realm, and urban quality of life.
Sarah
Drifted away from the party for a while, but is coming back. The new leadership is restoring her faith. She needs to be reminded why she believed in the first place.
Nina
Two small kids, still living with her own parents. Desperate for housing security so she can raise her family. Her parents immigrated from Poland. She cares deeply and votes.
How it works.
No perfection required. Just commitment to completing the challenge. Two WhatsApp prompts a day guide you through everything.
Morning prompt — film a video
Each morning you get a creative prompt to film a 30–90 second video. Early days focus on non-political content to build raw confidence.
10 mins of inspiration-scrolling
Spend time on TikTok and Instagram to understand what wins algorithms. You can't beat the game without knowing the rules.
Afternoon prompt — review & share
Your second prompt encourages you to share your video in the group, gather feedback, and slowly begin editing as confidence builds.
Week 2 — editing & publishing
Editing approaches are introduced gradually. By the end, you're publishing polished vertical video spontaneously, without anxiety.
Simple. Uncompromising.
No scripts. Bullet points at most. You're video-calling a friend, not issuing a press release.
30–90 seconds maximum. Think briefly before recording. Don't over-prepare.
No perfection required. Raw and real builds trust. Polish creates distance.
Stick to your pillars. If your audience personas wouldn't care about it, don't post it.
Start non-political. The early days are about building muscle memory, not messaging.
Only share videos you're proud of. No pressure until you're ready.
Get out of Presenter Mode.
The biggest blocker for political communicators isn't technical — it's tonal. You're trained to broadcast. We're teaching you to confide.
- A formal "politician" tone
- Speaking to a crowd
- Press statement language
- Reading from a script
- Addressing parliament style
- A 1:1 "video call" chat
- Speaking to one named individual
- Your feet in their boots — why would they care?
- Confide, don't project
- Authentic, unscripted delivery
You need less than you think.
You do not need professional video production. Your smartphone is more than enough. The goal is spontaneous, authentic content — not a broadcast studio.
Your Phone
Whatever model you have. It's more than enough for vertical video that performs on every platform.
TikTok
Install and use daily for 10-minute inspiration scrolls. Understand what the algorithm rewards.
Your primary publishing platform for Reels. Consider a practice account while building confidence.
CapCut
Free editing app introduced in Week 2. Captions, cuts, and polish — without the learning curve.
Introduced in Week 2Tripod: optional. Propping against a table or holding in hand works fine to start.
Lighting: a window is often enough. Ring lights are very optional.
Mic: phone mic is fine indoors. DJI Mic Mini is a worthwhile upgrade if budget allows.
